OpenZ: a free 3D remake of the 1996 RTS Z, now with a jungle level and a hero squad (1.1)

Z by the Bitmap Brothers was one of the strangest RTS games of the 90s: no harvesting and no base building at all. You win by grabbing territory flags, and every sector you hold makes your factories build faster, so the whole game is a frantic tug of war against the clock.

It turned 30 this year, so we rebuilt it in 3D as a free, open-source fan project. Version 1.1 just came out:

• three classic levels: Desert, Jungle and Car Park, with day, night and weather
• the full robot army plus tanks, jeeps, APCs, cranes and guns
• Allan and Brad join you as a hero squad on the Jungle level, with a shuttle you can actually fly
• a CPU opponent with three difficulty levels
• Windows, plus an experimental Mac build
